I also use Superior a lot and love it when I'm programming drums. If you're going to actually play the sounds, I'd add Steven Slates products into the mix of considerations. I want to say that most of them cost less than $20. While I've not bought any, or actually heard of any other producers outside of Steven Slate, I've read that they are solid.
I REALLY like my EZD/SD combination and it has fooled its share of musicians when I've shown them rough demos I've made with EZ drummer.though it hasn't fooled any of my drummer friends, though it has impressed them.Įdited to add - Toontrack releases producer preset packs for SD.2 from time to time. That sale runs through the end of January and I was able to buy all of my keys at the local GC. So, for the cost of SD2 alone, you can get and have access to both programs, which is great if you record or want to program drums on a older or less powerful computer. You can get EZ Drummer with your choice of expansion for $150 and the crossgrade from EZ Drummer to SD2 is another $150. Right now, if I recall the email I received correctly, Toontrack has a sale going on. One benefit of crossgrading from EZ Drummer to SD2 was that it allows me to keep the full functionality of EZ Drummer, which is great since SD2 would cripple the laptop I currently use to record with. From what I've gathered on line, it sounds like it's pretty easy to trigger with an electronic set.
I ended up buying SD2.0 for two reasons.one, I was crossgrading from EZ Drummer and already had two expansions for it, and two, I liked how SD sounded just a tad more. I had the opportunity to sit down and listen to someone play with AD for an hour or so a couple of weeks ago.
